What is a Kickstand?

A kickstand is a small folding leg, usually near the chainstay or bottom bracket, that flips down to prop the bike upright without leaning it against something.
A simple analogy

How it works
A spring-loaded pivot lets the leg fold flush against the frame when riding, and flip down to touch the ground and balance the bike's weight when parked.
