Disc Brakes vs Rim Brakes
Two different ways of stopping a bike, with real trade-offs.

What it is
Disc brakes clamp a separate rotor at the wheel's hub, giving strong, consistent stopping power in the wet at the cost of extra weight and complexity. Rim brakes clamp the wheel rim directly — lighter and simpler, but noticeably weaker when the rim is wet.
Why it matters
If you regularly ride in the rain or carry heavy loads, discs are usually worth the extra weight and cost; for light, dry-weather riding, rim brakes remain a perfectly capable, lower-maintenance choice.
