Brake Pad Wear Check
Checking how much friction material is left on your pads.
Why bother
Brake pads wear down gradually with use, and stopping power drops sharply once the friction material is nearly gone.
How to check
- 1Look at the pad from the side, or remove it to check thickness
- 2Compare remaining pad material to the wear-line marks if present
- 3Replace before the backing plate is close to touching the rotor or rim
- 4Check both wheels — front and rear often wear at different rates
How often
Monthly, or every few hundred miles
