Tyre Tread & Sidewall Check

Looking over the tyre for wear, cuts and cracking.

Why bother

Beyond just pressure, the tyre's rubber itself degrades with age and mileage, and can develop cuts that risk a blowout.

How to check

  1. 1Check the central tread for a flattened, bald look
  2. 2Run a finger lightly around looking for embedded flints or glass
  3. 3Check the sidewalls for cracking, especially near the bead
  4. 4Replace if you can see the fabric casing showing through
How often

Monthly, or before any long ride
