What is a Brake Lever?

The brake lever is what your fingers actually squeeze. It converts that pull into cable tension or hydraulic pressure sent down to the caliper.
A simple analogy
“It's the start of a very short conversation between your hand and your brake pads.”
How it works
Pulling the lever either tugs an internal cable or pushes a piston that pressurises fluid in a hydraulic hose, both of which end in the caliper squeezing shut.
Signs of trouble
- ⚠Lever feels loose, spongy or pulls to the handlebar
- ⚠Creaking or grinding pivot
- ⚠Lever doesn't return after release
