What is a Quick Release / Thru-Axle?
The lever or bolt that clamps your wheel securely into the frame.

This is the mechanism that holds each wheel in the frame or fork — either a quick-release skewer with a cam lever, or a solid thru-axle that threads directly into the frame.
A simple analogy
“It's the difference between a door held shut with a latch (quick release) or a bolt through the frame (thru-axle) — both do the same job, one is just stiffer.”
How it works
A quick release clamps the wheel between spring-loaded cones using cam pressure. A thru-axle threads through the hub and directly into the frame or fork for a stiffer, more precise fit.
Signs of trouble

- ⚠Lever won't stay closed under load
- ⚠Difficulty threading a thru-axle smoothly
