What is a Saddle?

The seat — arguably the most personal part of the whole bike.

SIT BONES · PRESSURE · FIT

Simplified schematic — not to scale.

In plain English

The saddle supports your weight through your sit bones. The right shape and width varies hugely from rider to rider, which is why one person's dream saddle is another's nightmare.

A simple analogy

It's less like a chair and more like a pair of shoes — fit matters far more than looks.

How it works

A rigid shell, topped with foam or gel padding and covered in a durable fabric, sits on rails that clamp into the seatpost, letting you adjust height and angle.

Signs of trouble

  • Numbness or persistent discomfort while riding
  • Torn cover or collapsed padding
  • Creaking noise from the rail or clamp area
Rough UK cost

£20 – £150
