What are Spokes & Nipples?
The thin metal rods that hold the rim in tension around the hub.

In plain English
Spokes run from the hub out to the rim, where a small threaded nipple lets a wheelbuilder tighten or loosen each one to keep the wheel round and true.
A simple analogy

How it works
Tightening a nipple pulls that section of rim inward slightly; loosening does the opposite. A skilled build balances tension all the way round so the wheel stays true under load.
Signs of trouble
- ⚠A single 'ping' or twang while riding
- ⚠Visible bent or slack-looking spoke
- ⚠Wheel pulling out of true faster than normal
