Chain Lubrication

Keeping the chain's moving parts oiled to reduce wear.

Why bother

A dry chain wears out faster, shifts worse and makes more noise. A drop of the right lube on each roller keeps things running smoothly.

How to check

  1. 1Wipe the chain clean with a rag first
  2. 2Apply a drop of chain lube to each roller while backpedalling
  3. 3Leave it a few minutes to soak in
  4. 4Wipe off any excess — a dripping chain just attracts grit
How often

Every 100–200 miles, or sooner in wet weather
