Clicking or Buzzing Freehub Noise
A clicking or buzzing sound when coasting without pedalling.
What's happening
As soon as you stop pedalling and coast, you hear a rhythmic clicking or buzzing from the back wheel — for most hubs, this is completely normal.
Likely causes
- •Standard ratchet mechanism noise (normal on most hubs)
- •A freehub that needs fresh grease
- •Worn pawls inside the freehub body
What to do
Usually nothing to worry about. If the noise changes, gets much louder, or the freehub stops engaging properly when you pedal, get it checked.
Heads up: Bikeautonomy is for general guidance only. If your bike is behaving oddly, get it inspected by a qualified bike mechanic.
