Safe to keep ridingWarning sign

Creaking Saddle or Seatpost

A creak that happens with every pedal stroke, from around the seat.

What's happening

A rhythmic creak or squeak that seems to come from underneath you, usually worse when pedalling out of the saddle.

Likely causes

  • Dry or loose saddle rail clamp
  • A seatpost that needs regreasing where it enters the frame
  • Loose bolts on the saddle itself

What to do

Safe to keep riding — it's annoying rather than dangerous, but worth a quick clamp check and regrease to stop it getting worse.

Heads up: Bikeautonomy is for general guidance only. If your bike is behaving oddly, get it inspected by a qualified bike mechanic.
