M-Check (Pre-Ride Safety Check)
A quick head-to-toe check of the bike before you ride.
Why bother
Named for the M-shaped path your hands trace over the bike — front wheel, up to the headset, down through the drivetrain, and back to the rear wheel and brakes.
How to check
- 1Squeeze both tyres and check pressure looks right
- 2Check the front wheel is secure and spins true
- 3Check the headset for play, and the brakes bite firmly
- 4Check the chain, cassette and derailleurs look clean and undamaged
- 5Check the rear wheel is secure and the rear brake works
How often
Before every ride, especially after any bike has been stored or transported
