M-Check (Pre-Ride Safety Check)

A quick head-to-toe check of the bike before you ride.

Why bother

Named for the M-shaped path your hands trace over the bike — front wheel, up to the headset, down through the drivetrain, and back to the rear wheel and brakes.

How to check

  1. 1Squeeze both tyres and check pressure looks right
  2. 2Check the front wheel is secure and spins true
  3. 3Check the headset for play, and the brakes bite firmly
  4. 4Check the chain, cassette and derailleurs look clean and undamaged
  5. 5Check the rear wheel is secure and the rear brake works
How often

Before every ride, especially after any bike has been stored or transported
