Clunk From the Front End Under Braking
A dull clunk through the handlebars when you brake hard.
What's happening
Pulling the front brake produces a distinct clunk or knock felt through the bars and front end — usually most obvious rocking the bike back and forth with the brake held.
Likely causes
- •A loose or worn headset
- •A loose stem clamp
- •A loose front axle or quick release
What to do
Stop and check before riding further — a loose headset can get progressively worse and affect steering control.
Heads up: Bikeautonomy is for general guidance only. If your bike is behaving oddly, get it inspected by a qualified bike mechanic.
